ABOUT THE KARELIAN BEAR DOG

The KBD as an official breed originates from eastern Finland near the border of Russia, but it's anchestors were born in Russia and taken by the Finns after the Cold War in years 1939-1940. Luckily for these dogs, unlike everything else, Russia didn't claim them back after the Moscow Peace Treaty. KBDs are a compact sized breed with a much bigger dog's personality. They are known to be able to help hunters bring down big game because of their independent, loyal, strong and fiersome character, and an extremely strong hunting drive added with super instincts. The breed has stayed primitive, yet some characteristics have turned away like aggression towards humans - the breed's individuals are very attached to their own person and are becoming to be more trusting to visitors as well.
